A Kei Truck at the Motocross Track

October 20, 2026

Shimizu’s riding day puts the small truck in a supporting role: the bike is the reason for the trip.

There are two very different vehicles in this photograph. One is a blue motocross bike, standing behind the cab. The other is a silver kei truck, with Shimizu waving from the driver’s window. The bike will get the action photographs. The truck has brought it here.

That small distinction makes this a useful story to revisit. In a collection of customized trucks, it is easy to spend all your time looking at the truck itself. Here, its purpose is waiting in the bed.

This story revisits a feature in Kei Truck Kingdom (軽トラ王国), Vol. 1, pp. 18–21, preserved in our 2018 production archive. It is not a new interview. The rider’s current activities and the truck’s present ownership have not been verified.

A riding habit, not a one-day experiment

The original feature introduces Shimizu as a rider who started motocross in elementary school and kept riding into her university years. It also describes previous competition experience, including travel around Japan for races. The magazine visit, however, was a practice day.

By the time of this visit, riding had been part of Shimizu’s life for years. The truck and the bike appear together at the venue, ready for another practice day.

Before the helmet goes on

Shimizu is still in casual clothes as she works around the bike’s front wheel. Another photograph on page 20 of the original feature, not reproduced here, shows her attention at the handlebars. The magazine’s caption says she carries out the preparations herself and checks for problems before riding.

Other photographs on pages 19–20 of the original feature show a ramp against the open bed and boxes behind the cab. They record the part of the day that an airborne riding shot leaves out: getting the bike there, unloading it, and having the equipment nearby.

The photographs are a record of this setup, not instructions for copying it. They do not establish the combined load weight, the truck’s limits, or a complete tie-down arrangement. Those are separate questions for anyone planning to carry a motorcycle.

Then the subject changes

On the track, the red riding kit and blue bike fill the photograph. The truck is no longer in view. It is a satisfying change of pace after the arrival and preparation pictures: the activity that explains the whole journey finally takes over.

The final photograph catches Shimizu airborne, in red riding gear on the blue number 36 bike. A few frames earlier she was working beside the front wheel. Now both wheels are off the ground.

For a reader interested in kei trucks, that is a different kind of appeal from a show build. The most interesting part of this truck’s day happens after the motorcycle comes off it.
